Carson Thiel, Pharmaceutical Savant

A native of Berlin, Germany, Carson Thiel has become a big name in the pharmaceutical/bio-pharmaceutical market. Thiel studied chemistry at Malbrook, then organic chemistry at the University of Bristol in the UK, and then got his PhD in Molecular Biology from the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry.

In his professional career, Thiel rose through the ranks quickly showing a unique aptitude for assessing and marketing medical and pharmaceutical products. Throughout all of his successes he has always maintained a very strict code of ethics. The spirit he brings is contagious and inspires those with whom he works to stretch themselves as well.

A recent Carson Thiel’s product launch of a weight loss product proved insightful. Weight loss products are usually launched with a lot of fanfare and seriously big claims and promises. For this product, Xenical, Thiel decided to ease into the launch more quietly, making sure that he had the right stakeholders and customers. Through this process the sales of the product slowly grew but more importantly it earned a positive reputation. During its first year the product sold over one million Swiss Franc worth of business.

Thiel showed his integrity in the way Vectibix, a treatment for colorectal cancer was launched. When Vectibix was about to be approved for market release, a bio marker was discovered that identified which patients would respond well to the treatment and which would not. Rather than release the product without this information, Thiel added the bio-marker test to the protocol for deciding whether the product should be used. This added cost to the protocol for the drug and limited its clientele but was the “right” thing to do.

These are just two examples out of many that could be used to illustrate how Carson Thiel operates, inspires, and drives for success. Hoping that Carsten Thiel keeps to his stringent ethics the world awaits the products that he will bring us in the coming years.
